Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering what you do to make your cubicle, desk or office look or feel a little better.

I know some people like a plant, some people like family pictures, some people like little sculptures or newton balls, etc.

Personally, I want to get a Bonsai for my desk.

What do you think?

On one shelf of my cube I have:

Die Cast 1998 Saleen Mustang in glass case
One piston from 1990's 5.0L Mustang, cleaned, sandblasted, and coated
Original grill emblem from a 1967 Mustang

Would it be safe to say that you're a Mustang fan?

I have a small frame with pictures of my kids, a couple Funko figures, a Dundee award, an ink drawing of Dwight from The Office, and a Doctor Who wall calendar. Oh, and a candle which is purely for show - I don't burn it since that's not allowed.

At my former job I had TONS of stuff displayed in my cubicle, but after getting laid off and having to pack up all that stuff...well, I decided that going minimal was much better once I found full-time work again. Everything personal must fit in the purse I carry, for quick exits.

Just a few personal items are best. I think a plant would look nice. I would have just a few things that could fit into a small box, so that if you did have to leave, it wouldn't take long to get your few personal items.

We used to be able to decorate our cubes; however, when a new Mr. Big came on board he decided that cubes would display work-related items only, and in an orderly manner. Boring!

I have post cards taped to my upper file cabinet. It reminds me of traveling & lets other know all the places I been to. I like when cubicals have some personal stuff, it tells a story about the person. But I hate it when people over crowd their cubical with too many items. its already hard to manage paperwork

I been with my company 9 years and after all these years I am getting intense desire to deck up my office space all pink mainly to feel young again. I want pink magazine holder that I use for hiding ongoing paper work, get bunch of gold and pink file holders..etc but I am not creative nor am I gutsy. So I am waiting

You should find out what your employer allows first, where I worked we had six shifts that shared space, no one was allowed anything personal.

Used to have a lot of mementoes of projects I've worked in the past, some Air Force memorabilia, family photos, stuff like that. Then I got moved to a new building with cubes instead of offices and most of the personal stuff got taken home. Right now we are more toward the everything has to be work related with no personality side of things in the office. Current management wants people to feel temporary under the impression that makes everyone work harder.

My last job I had a large office space (in a cubicle) with a large shelf above the desk space, so I had little mementos that made it feel warmer.

Where I am now, I have an office, but the space is not huge and occasionally I have to share it with a visiting manager, so the few personal objects I have I keep between my computer and the wall -- lest I infringe on any other space.

We are hoping to get a new building in the next year and I hope to be able to arrange my office so I can bring in a few (small) items.

I've never understood managers who forbid personal items, as long as they don't offend anyone or take up 1/2 the space.
