I have become very curious as to why Bank of America and as I understand it, Wells Fargo as well as a few other big banks do not drug test.

Anyone know the reason for this choice?

I have worked in 2 Banks (including one of them you mentioned above) and both of them only include fingerprint as part of background check package.

I have interviewed with a healthcare company and they only include drug test as part of the background check package (no fingerprint).

Background check can be expensive and they are most likely only going to perform what is necessary for the company/industry.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents

Just as you, I have personal experience. I just find it quite odd that they do now.

If a company has trouble finding qualified people for low-paying positions, they may elect not to do drug testing because it severely limits their candidate pool.

It's corporate headquarters so I don't think they fall under the category.

What kind of jobs there? Are you talking about senior VP? Or are you talking about a $40K a year employee who works as a teller or processing loans?

Many companies only require a drug test for insurance purposes, such as General liability. Many companies could care less if someone smokes a joint every weekend, so it does not surprise me that larger companies do not require drug tests.

They don't want to offend the higher ups that are into cocaine.

I work in health care and they only do an initial drug test as part of the hiring process.

I'm talking about ALL jobs from the part time tellers all the way up to the CEO but in my own personal experience it's been higher up corporate jobs.

I work for a major corporation and they quit pre-employment drug screening years ago. It saves them money and opens up the pool of applicants that might smoke weed off the clock. Employees with drug or alcohol problems generally weed themselves out sooner or later (no pun intended!).
