I think you could answer truthfully and say how you learned from the experience. But they would still probably see you in a negative light. Many employers these days still don't realize a huge percentage of the workforce has been fired at least once.

I know plenty of people who have been fired. Not laid off. Fired.

Usually it's due to a personality clash with a boss. It happens.

The ones I've talked to covered up the firing. If you talk about how you "learned your lesson" after getting fired, they'll just move on to the next candidate.

Employers don't tell people how one left the company. Fired. Laid Off. They won't say.

When they do background checks, HR is told just to say "Mr. So-and-so worked here from mm/dd/yyyy to aa/bb/cccc"

When asked the reason for leaving, they won't say, to avoid lawsuits.

Asking if someone has been fired "for cause" is not unusual. The presumption here is the employers don't mean a layoff, which nearly everyone has experienced at least once in a normal career.

However... If a potential employer asked about a history of "discipline" I would put away my pen and papers, get up, and leave in complete silence. That question is so silly as to be unprofessional.

Would not bother me I have not been either in 31 years. Interviews are basically full of stupid questions just to see if can think on your feet. If i had been fired, I'd have an answer to that prepared in case it came up.
