Considering getting a Class A license, however I'm not sure which schools are best in the New England area and which companies are best to start with. Someplace that offers local and regional work as opposed to going over the road for days on end. Though I wouldn't rule out cross country jobs I'd prefer staying local and coming home every night or at least most nights. I don't mind moving for the right company to someplace like NYC or even California. Not too many other places I want to live though. Just gathering info right now, not even sure this is really what I want to do when I retire from the military. I've driven short trucks for a living prior to entering the service, but never tractors. The military will pay for my schooling up to $9,000 so I'm not too concerned about cost.

Are companies like Yellow any good to work for? How about Fedex or other courier services that employ truckers?

Almost always before driving for UPS you need to start on the line as a p/t employee.

Yellow pays real well, but you would have a better chance of becoming an astronaut with your CDL and no experience than getting on with Yellow.

FedEx will only hire you for over the road(OTR) and they have recently been laying off drivers.
