After 7 months of tough searching, I just received a verbal job offer today and I will receive the formal offer in writing this week. I also have 3 other phone interviews scheduled for this week which I will still follow thru with. The pay is a little more than I was making, so you can still get a pay raise in this economy.
I think the job market is picking up a bit, I have been getting alot more responses lately. For those of you who are still looking, just stay positive, and confident and it will happen for you too. I am just so grateful to have a job again.
That's why people on here need to stop using the economy as an excuse why they can't find a job. Anything the media says so many people take it and run with it. Congrats on the job

I disagree with that. In many areas and cities where there use to be page after page of classifieds with job openings, some are down to a half-page.

It is not an excuse, it is a reality and it presents real obstacle and more competition for the few positions that are open.
Nor is it an excuse to stop looking, but the opposite, a greater reason to put greater effort into the search than would have been required 2 years ago.

Good work it is an accomplishment to fine a job in the shambles of letting the prosperity 'trickle down'.

Twit: congratulations. Hard work on your part has paid off.
TV&SG: Give it up. There is a HUGE difference between individual successes and the vast number of unemployed. Yes, some people are getting jobs. Great that you got one. But the reality is that the economy sucks, and there are hundreds of thousands of unemployed applying for an evershrinking number of jobs. It is not possible for everybody to get a job in this economy. You did, because of hard work and luck. Others will not, because they only worked hard, but had no luck. Don't make it worse for them by blaming them for factors beyond their control.

Very true, my friend. I always followed the ads, even when I was a stay at home mom in NY.
After 9-11 the jobs in NY (I lived outside) went down dramatically. Anyone familiar with the NY Times jobs section would realize this...it used to be huge...same for Newsday's job section...then blam, nothing...a few pages.
When we moved up here in 9/2007 there were at least 4/5 pages of jobs in this 'little area.' It was THE area to get a job in...then, slowly it all faded away...Now we have one page, maybe a few 'scattered ads' in Sunday's paper.
Yes, you can say, 'send unsolicited resumes' (which I have done) or 'network' (which I have done) but in the end, if there is a hiring freeze, there is a freeze which means no more new jobs (at least for a while).
I am so happy for you because you are so happy.
I hope I will have good news in the upcoming weeks.
Congrats!
