Lately I been hearing some of cowokers refer to me as "a suck up" to the boss because the boss compliments me from time to time.

Never knew a suck up meant

1. Never complaining
2. Being Positive
3. Being Social
4. Maintaing High Performance
5. Working Late

I guess I took my last layoff so personal that I felt that on my next job I had to do the opposite of what I did before. So I don't think they know that all I'm trying to do is STABILIZE my current position in this economy. What's wrong with making the boss laugh and having a social conversation?

If it is outside the norm, outside the vibe balance of the office, if you stand out from the rest in your behavior dynamic with the boss, then the others in the group will take notice and highlight this.

Watch the culture and group dynamic of the office and try to stay within its boundaries.

In past jobs I never had one conversation with the boss because of my shyness so I now realize that I had to change because being shy doesn't allow build relationships.

Maybe they are jealous? Maybe they just don't want to see you get ahead. Mediocre people would rather 'be negative to achievers' than try themselves.

I bet you have once been one of the 'name callers' before your epiphany. Think why you did it.

The boss told one co worker to do what I do during their one on one meeting and she came out of the meeting saying-"you get my nerves"

Let me tell you something. In every job I had I was a top producer...people aren't going to like you.

There's a quote...I can't find it...it says, I think "Exceed others, and they will not like you, let them exceed you, and they will."

In the end, just don't be arrogant. Do your job and keep your head down.

It's just like school. Overachievers aren't going to be popular. Don't let that faze you.

One female coworker said in regards to my performance when mention by the boss

"That's because he has no life and stays late every night"

You're making them look bad by comparison. They'll have to up their game. People don't like change or making extra effort.
