I recently accepted a position with a new company. I took a 15000.00 paycut to accept this position because I was promised several opportunities in return:

1. I was promised complete trainning in property management

2. I was also promised room for advancement.

Well since I have been employed, my title is Asst. Property Manager, my property manager has been out a total of 6 weeks. The training I was promise I would receive has ceased.

When I question my boss about this I was told her boss was making these arrangements. I then went online to see when the classes was being given. I discovered these classes are being given the same day my boss is schedule to be out of the office.

Now recently two of my coworkers who work in another department came in and stated they will no longer be working for the company.

I took this as being very alarming because the department only consisted of 3 people. The company immediately posted both position and only hired one person who has no experience in this department. The next thing I know the other position was eliminated.

Today, I come into work and my boss tells me I have a conference call with her boss. During this conference call I am told that my property is experiencing cutbacks and my hours are being reduced by 8 hours per week.

This place me at a 20,000.00 per year paycut
Meanwhile my boss was aware of this all the time and said nothing to me.

She then began to state to me that she wanted me to come to work tomorrow and help maintenance breakup the floor so I can assist them in laying down tile because we must cut back.

At no time did I accept this position to perform any such duties. In fact maintenance work is clearly outside of my title at work.

To add insult to injury, my duties will remain the same. I now have less time and less pay to perform them.

How would you go about handling this situation? I have to leave this company asap, but I can't afford to be without any income at all

Welcome to the job market where employees are hungry and employers could care less. You need the money, suck it up and keep working. You hate the job, quit and try to find another one.

Can you live on unemployment? If so, tell them you will not accept the manual labor duties and you accepted the job b/c you were told you'd learn property management and all the terms you had been promised are not happening..... and you are extremely disappointed. Also tell them you really do need to work all the hours they hired you to do. They will fire you and you will qualify for unemployment.

You need to read the book "Who Moved My Cheese"? It will only take a few hours to complete and afterwards you will have a clearer picture how to proceed.
