What urban Mediterranean island has strong Middle Eastern/North African and Euro influence? Preferably with dense cities (or city).

I've lived in Cyprus, and I would say to a far lesser degree.

Would Gibraltar have any "Middle Eastern/North African" influences? I mean I think it's more English, but it's in the region. Although maybe it doesn't count as Mediterranean. How about the Balearic Islands?

Malta does sound like a good choice as their language is apparently a variant from Arabic, although it's not intelligible to Arabic it seems. I seem to recall it having noticeable Latin and/or Italian influences.

Ethnologue report for language code: mlt

Malta is like 95% Catholic and more believing/attending than most of Europe, only Kosovo I think comes out more religious, but there are Mideast/North-African Catholics so that might not preclude a North-African twinge.

Gibraltar is not really an island, but in any case I don't perceive it as either Mediterranean or having strong Middle Eastern/North African influence. Neither do I see this influence (no more than anywhere else across the Mediterranean) on the Balearic Islands, which to me are influenced by Catalonia and by other European Mediterranean islands. Although, rather than an influence, it's merely cultural and geographic affinity I guess.
