Why is Montreal not on the list, but a number of continental European cities on the list?

As to the question, probably Toronto or Vancouver.

Most people would not be able to tell much difference between Toronto and New York City or Chicago in terms of what nation it "belongs" to.

Milton Keynes always gets mentioned on threads like this one. The obvious ones on the list: Vancouver, Toronto, Auckland, Sydney and Wellington. The rest? Not really.

You should do this list minus the Canadian cities. It will be more interesting since Toronto easily takes it. Vancouver is not first because it has a funny Stereotypical Canadian visual setting.

As a Torontonian, there are certainly many elements of the city that set it apart from many U.S cities - particularly residential architecture.. As you get to know people more it becomes even more distinctly different. However, I have to frame this from the perspective of someone outside of the U.S and Toronto and in that regard I would agree completely the Toronto would be the most indistinguishable city in the world from your typical American city. Most Big box retailers and fast food joints are to be found in T.O in more abundance than any other city outside the U.S.

Vancouver..
Starbucks is more popular than Tim Horton's.

Tim Hortons might own the highways, but Starbucks controls the cities | canada.com

All they need is some American style freeways.

That would be the same in any of Canada's big cities though. Toronto for sure.

Oh please, we have way more Targets, Home Depots, Walmarts, McD's etc than those overly caffeinated mountain people.. Besides, Vancouver may have a greater concentration of Starbucks than Toronto, but in absolute numbers there's probably more Starbucks on Yonge Street in T.O than all of Vancouver... sheesh! If there is an American retailer coming to Canada - they come to Toronto first ... period end of story! Heck, even if those westerners get the first odd one - we quickly roll over them for having the biggest flagship store and the most overall. When Nordstrom comes to Canada - inevitably the Eaton Centre Nordstrom will be their biggest and best -
