which city of these does have the best 'overall package' in regard of culture, nightlife, sights, diversity, size and history?
There are Mediterranean, and possibly some Asian, cities that beat London with a stick in terms of history and sights, but London hands down with regard to diversity, culture and size, and probably nightlife as well.
I wouldn't put any North American city on such a list, even as a simple question of mathematics when it comes to history, though, apart from that, I would expect that many would argue in favor of New York. In this regard, perhaps some Asian cities should be on the list, possibly Singapore and Hong Kong, maybe Shanghai going forward.
I've spent time in London and New York and think both have equal amounts of culture, nightlife, sights, diversity and size. London obviously has more history though.
Toronto is also a very diverse city with great nightlife, but I don't think it would score as highly for history or size. The museums aren't quite up to NYC/London standards either. Still, it's a great place to live.
Hmm, I'd say New York was the capital of the world personally, though I've never been. Yes, you should never be bored in London but one thing it lacks is a hot, sunny summer and proximity to beaches that you can actually sunbathe on properly and comfortably swim in the sea. Another thing that London lacks (and I don't know how New York compares) is a large native working-class population who've been there a few generations. Most Londoners these days are either no more than two or three generations from another country or are from elsewhere in the UK and don't plan on living there forever (like myself). The real Londoners, and their culture/accents, are more common outside the city than in it.

This is actually an advantage for me Warm is nice, but hot, New-York hot is hard to endure.
And Brighton isn't so far from London, is it?
