Hi guys,

The dwindling middle class of America as well as the union busting and poor environments to start a business have gotten me concerned about the future of this country. I am curious as to what countries are modern, English speaking, lucrative on a business front, cosmopolitan, would be easy to immigrate to, and have a great aviation sector. I say aviation sector because it is my primary career being a pilot. I have watched people with nowhere near my experience flying nab great positions in other countries while in America I have to get more experience and spend more money just to land an awful regional flying gig. It's frustrating watching people I trained go back to their home countries flying large jets for good pay while I have to sit here making jack doing things I don't want to do. I'm not saying i'm looking to leave America yet but what do you guys see as the best options as far as immigrating goes? Thanks! I guess off the top of my head Toronto in Canada and Australia are intriguing.

It might be easier to get a job based here with an international carrier and re-locate..... they will do work visas etc for you..... Quantas, Virgin, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines etc etc Both Singapore and Hong Kong are great places to live......

The language barrier will make it difficult to fly with an international carrier unless you have command of more than English. There are some obviously where's that's not an issue. Qantas and Air New Zealand stick out as immigration to Australia and New Zealand is less difficult than most countries.

Cathay Pacific - Careers : Careers Home (http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_INTL/careers/flying/fo_requirements - broken link)

I had met a guy who lived in HK when we lived there who was a Cathay pilot and only spoke English....

Inter - company immigration is a lot easier than trying it yourself.

From Wikipedia
"Although local languages are sometimes used in ATC communications, the default language of aviation worldwide is English. Controllers who do not speak this as a first language are generally expected to show a certain minimum level of competency with the language".

The "English speaking" bit really, really limits you. Your working language is going to be english anyway.

So you got a choice of what, Canada, Australian, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Irleland and the UK?

You want to leave the US because you won't be on a blood sucking Union? Try Europe they love Unions.

Australia, New Zealand, England come to mind...I must say though, the US has the best business environment. My family has owned numerous businesses from hotels, retail stores, restaurants etc. We looked at businesses for sale in Australia, New Zealand, S. Korea, England and a few others and you definitely have more freedom as an owner here and pay much less in taxes.

It sounds like you want to be a pilot overseas, so I think you meant to say you're looking for a better employee environment. I'd check out Australia. It's a great country and home to Qantas Airlines. I lived there a couple years and loved it. Good luck on your search!
