Wow, only one would have a college education and own a computer (like probably most of the people I know), even now? Puts it all into perspective really!

Very interesting thread! Although I would also think more than 70 million people own a personal computer? I can hardly believe the number would be that low...

If the world actually was 100 people, none of those 'statistics' would apply!

1 will die and 2 will be born... that's frightening.

BTW: where is this statistic from?
Never mind: http://www.100people.org/statistics_...statistics.php

Quite possible:

Australia/Oceania - only 1% of population are internet users
Middle east - 3.3%
Africa - 5.7%

You're misinterpreting it - reading the graph not the table. It's not that 1% of the population of Oceania are internet users, it's that 1% of the world's Internet-using population is from Oceania. 60% of Oceanians use the internet according to the table. Ditto 31.7% from the Middle East and 11.4% from Africa. Thinking about it I don't believe at all that there are only 65-70 million privately-owned computers in the world (1 for every 100 people). There'd surely be more than that in the US alone.
