New Seven Wonders of the World - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Assuming you'd never seen any of them, which would you visit, if you could only choose one?

I've actually visited the Great Wall of China, but even so, I'd pick the Colosseum. The Great Wall is not something you can fully appreciate by just seeing one section. I'm also interested in Roman history/gladiatorial combat.

edit: Chichen Itza is actually in Mexico, not Peru

I've been to the Colosseum (only one of the seven I've visited) and found it a bit underwhelming - it's not that big for those used to modern structures and it's so decayed/looted over the years it's VERY hard to imagine it being used for its original purpose, particularly with swarms of tourists everywhere. I imagine I'd think the same about Macchu Picchu. I'd choose the Christ statue in Rio for the stunning view alone.

I picked petra, dont know why, always wanted to see it since indiana jones. Ive seen the Colosseum and the Great wall, both were pretty dispapointing, possible because of the hordes of tourists around.

No idea why angkor did not make the final cut, the entire complex including all the other temples is stunning. the tourist hordes did not worrry me one bit their. If i remember correctly i actually voted for Angkor in the poll

I was about to say, but for a second I was thinking you meant Chichen Itza and the nation of Peru (two separate things) are classed as a wonder. I wondered why that was done, but then figured out you just got mixed up.

I'm into China, but I think there are likely things in China I'd prefer over the Wall. Petra could be interesting.

I'm not into the "New Wonders" stunt, but out of those I guess the Great Wall and Petra are the most impressive ones for me...

I've seen the Colosseum and Taj Mahal and they're both impressive. I'm sure all of them are worth visiting.

I wouldn't go ten miles out of my way to see any of them. There is way too much more to "see" when traveling.

I have seen Petra (it was barely 10 miles out of my way. I doubt if there were a dozen tourists there that day, and most of the world had never heard of it then). It is the only one I would recommend, and maybe the Taj Mahal, because the other ones are just "big" , without being particularly noteworthy for any other reason. I also saw Chichen Itza, but only because it is a good, preserved, accessible bird-watching habitat. I didn't pay much attention to the ruins, and left as soon as the tour buses began to arrive for the day and the birds went to sleep for their midday siesta. It's nice only if you're the first person in the gates in the morning and you run past the gift shop.

Only the Petra sparks my interest. And the Pyramids of Egypt ofcourse.
My least favorite is the Christ the Redeemer. Don't get me wrong, I think there are other much more appealing than Christ the Redeemer. It's so meh.. dull..

what about the iguazu falls? arent they there? there is a contest that will determine the new 7 wonders on the world 11/11/11 and Iguazu falls are among those.

About the list, maybe im biased, but i ALWAYS wanted to go to Machu Pichu, and people that went, told me its spectacular. I would like to know all of those places (well, i already know the christ in Rio) but Machu Pichu the most of all.
