Both countries have differences such as Landscapes, Weather, and their Geographic locations in the world.
However, they actually have noticeable similarities!
-Both are English speaking countries.
-They both have similar racial/ethnic demographics being very diverse with many European and Asian immigrants (but not that many Blacks and Hispanics at least compared to the USA).
-They each have more than one dominant city and roughly the same amount of those cities in each country. For Canada: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary
For Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth.
-They each have a somewhat similar population (22 to 23 million in Australia and 35 million for Canada)
-They have a similar province government system and a somewhat similar population distribution.
I would like to know other people's opinions about these 2 countries, as well as learning new information about these 2 countries because there are still plenty of things I don't know about Canada and Australia.
These are specific factors that can be talked about and to compare and contrast:
Excitement/Things to do
Cities/Towns
Nature Scenery
Architecture
Sociological/Racial/Ethnic Diversity
Weather
Number of Annual Foreign Visitors
Music Scene
Arts scene
Food/Dining Scene
Education
Healthcare
Economy
Current political environment (such as how progressive or conservative each country is)
Quality of life
-How do most Canadians and Australians view their own country?
-Also, how do the Canadians and Australians view each other?
-Do they know that they actually have some similarities with each other?

I really dont know ANYTHING about Australia and very very little about Canada, so my opinion here is gonna be the most uninformed opinion you could ever get and purely based on hunchs or impression that really do not mean anything.
My feel on Australia is that is probably a very beautiful country with lovely weather and beaches, but kind of with no personality, or, to say it with other words, superficial. Like people it isnt very interesting there . But of course to say this of ANY country its untrue cause one never can know. What i mean is that there are a lot of cultures that interest me, probably most (asian, european, places like russia or turkey or india, all latinamerican), and australian culture doesnt seem appealing or interesting to me. Like the feel that if i seen pictures ive seen it all.
But of course i hope my life experience proves me wrong on this.
About Canada, well, i dont know much either but my bestfriend lived in Canada for a year and she talked to me about it, plus ive seen a movie "My winnipeg" that was one of the most fantastic and melancholic movies i ever seen, and that made me think of Canadians as a more interesting Culture, more deep to say something, than australian. I would like to go to Canada some day, it seems like an interesting place. Of course i could be wrong, too, but thats just the impression i have.

Are you referring to the Guy Maddin film? It was very nice
Canada. It's more my kind of weather, better location IMO, I love nature there and I like the fact that you can choose to live in a francophone or a bilingual area.
I think this is a fantastic thread, I really am enjoying it thus far.
I've only been to Australia once (so far) and I've been to Canada several times. I absolutely love both of these countries, and I am very torn on almost all of these questions. Both countries share a vast multitude of similarities I feel.
Excitement/Things to do: Tie.
Cities/Towns: Tie again. Both have amazing world-class cities from Vancouver which is so visually stunning, to Francophone Montreal and Quebec City which are perfect mixes of the new and old worlds, to Toronto in Canada, and Sydney which also is so visually spectacular with the harbor, to Melbourne which is hip and cosmopolitan with a very European flair, to tropical Brisbane and the Gold Coast, to Perth, etc. in Australia.
Nature Scenery: Both are stunning countries, but I'll give the nod to Australia because I feel it has a bit more diversity here.
Architecture: Canada.
Sociological/Racial/Ethnic Diversity: Canada.
Weather: Australia.
Number of Annual Foreign Visitors: Canada.
Music Scene: Australia.
Arts scene: Don't really know enough to give a fair opinion.
Food/Dining Scene: Both have great food/dining scenes but I'll give the nod to Canada.
Education: Tie.
Healthcare: Australia.
Economy: Australia.
Current political environment (such as how progressive or conservative each country is): Canada.
Quality of life: Both offer a superb quality of life, I guess it just depends on personal preferences for most people. Can't really go wrong with either one.
Like I said perviously, I love both of these countries and if I ever were to move out of the US and I had the option of choosing where I'd go, these two countries are at the very top of my list.
One thing to consider, at least for me though, is that Australia really is so far away from most of the world and it is pretty isolated. Therefore, it takes longer to get almost everywhere and more money too.
Also, and this probably sounds stupid I know, but I don't know how I feel about all the poisonous critters in Oz. Yes, I know that no one has died for like 30 some years or whatever it is and yes I know it's not really that big of a deal and that most people never even see any poisonous spiders or whatever a vast majority of the time, but I feel that you still have to be somewhat aware of these things in Oz. Even if you only see one funnelweb spider a year, it's still one more than you'd see in Canada. That's all I'm trying to say. Like I said, I know that sounds dumb and ignorant, but I feel like the deadly things are still slightly a part of your life in Oz and obviously they wouldn't be in Canada. I wouldn't want to have to check inside my shoes when I put them on all the time or have to be mindful if one got in the house or the garage or if one's on the grass when you're just in the garden/yard, etc.
I think I would be happy living in either one of these countries and it's extremely close, but I choose Australia because I prefer the weather and beach culture lifestyle there (even with the poisonous critters lol!)
Canada lacks the poisonous creatures of Australia.. such as the evil funnel web spider, but Australia is rabies free but Canada has rabies.. and since I live in a rabies free country that is something I would worry about even if it is rare..

Education: Canada by a little
