Judging from that ridiculous mourning hype in North Korea, I would say that must be one of the most patriotic countries in the world.

I don't like patriotism, though, in my view it is a rather primitive feeling...

Indeed it tends to bring out people's nasty sides and pave the way for conflicts

Countries which I've noted to be very patriotic include Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, the United States, and Morocco. Countries which I've noted a lack of patriotism in are Germany and the Netherlands.

I really dont know how it is in those european countries you mentioned, but i bet ARGENTINA is one of the less patriotic countries ever. Except for futbol fanatism (wich is HUGE, but its futbol -i mean soccer, of course) Argentinians love to criticize their country. All the time, for ever, with every goverment, you will find the argentinians talking their country down and admiring/loving other countries. It is a mistery, cause this country isnt really that bad, but i think it is a cultural thing. We just learned to complain.
Criticism of one's government is not incompatible with patriotism. In fact, I would wager that most people who think the U.S. is superior to all other countries and specially blessed by God hold the Obama administration in the greatest contempt.

It's hard to find the track as the OP didn't define or suggest what patriotism is or how to measure it. One person's patriotism seems to be another person's idea of jingoism or worse, as is clear from how the thread has gone.

I'd definitely say the US is one of the least patriotic countries, at least of the one's I've been to. You have to have traveled abroad to really experience it. That's not to say Americans don't love their country, but we wear it on our sleeves a heck of a lot less than Canadians and many Europeans.
