I thought of Dubai because it is the epitome of a mecca for the wealthy. Just my opinion.

What classifies a city as a "sin city" anyway? Having known outlets for gambling? High rates of prostitution? Honest quetion.

I don't understand how Moscow or SF are sin cities. Moscow because of Russian tycoons partying it up? SF because of it's uber-liberal policies? Again, honest question.

If you feel you need to be in a large community of drug-users, than SF is good for that too. (Like anywhere, you can find drugs anywhere else as well, not a big draw. If you don't use drugs like me, than it's equally irrelevant).
Just wanted to point out that this is a pretty bad description of SF. It's a bunch of stereotypes.

SF is only 15% gay...so why exactly would it's "vice scene" only be fun for gay people? If your idea of SF's "sin city" side of things is centered on hippies, yuppies, and gay people, then you must not have much experience with it.

Let's say "sin city/vice" stuff would include strip clubs and other adult entertainment stuff, night clubs, bars, gambling, drugs, and prostitutes. In that case, let me break it down:

-SF has tons of bars, from yuppie, to hippie, to gay, to grimey and scary dives, to non-scary hipster "dives", to irish pubs, to sports bars, to upscale yuppie lounges, etc....some are Mexican, some are Chinese, some are Korean, there's a lot of diversity. AKA, it's not just hippie, yuppie, or gay centered...there's stuff for everyone.
-SF has many different night clubs. The majority however are NOT geared towards gays, hippies or yuppies (hippies and yuppies don't seem that big on clubs anyways).
-SF has quite a few strip clubs and adult stores/etc...some are gay, the majority are not. You probably won't find too many hippies or yuppies at them.
-SF has prostitutes, from those you see on the street, to "massage parlors" with Korean sex-slaves, to high-end call girls. Some are gay. Some are not. The majority are most likely not hippies or yuppies. Most of their pimps are not yuppies, hippies or gay either. I'm pretty sure most hippies and probably most yuppies aren't big on hookers though.
-SF's behind the scenes/illegal gambling probably mostly involves old dudes, gangsters and other shady characters...not mostly hippies, yuppies, or gay people.
-SF's nearest casinos are not geared towards gays, yuppies, or hippies either...they're geared towards everyone and anyone who has money, just like every other casino on earth. In fact, they seem to be quite popular with little old Chinese ladies.

I do agree that there are lots of drugs in SF though. It's the kind of place where you run into people smoking weed/smell weed smoke in public pretty regularly and it's no big deal. The cops don't care usually.... sometimes you'll have the misfortune of running into people smoking crack. Cops care more about that though. But once again SF's drug world is most definitely not centered on hippies, yuppies, and gay people. It's centered on everyone, especially the poor and young people...and the dealers are--you guessed it--mostly NOT gay, yuppies, or hippies either.

This is a large city with all kinds of different people, and there's much more to it than the typical gays/hippies/yuppies stereotypes.

Yeah, same here, sin city seems to be easy drugs and easy prostitutes, but I'm not sure.

I dont know much about Dubai, but I sometimes get the impression there are alot international hookers there.

I looked up demographics once, and significantly more men live there than women. I also recall reading 85% are foreign-born and half of those are Indian. I can't imagine many of them being Indian women either.

It's my personal opinion having lived in San Francisco for a year. Granted I had just lived in cities like New York, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Asia.

I hated the trains and bars stopping and closing before 1am. I also felt prices were too out of whack for anyone but yuppies to enjoy, and generally to spread out and needing a car to go clubbing, etc.

I just found myself staying in most nights as the nightlife seemed so lame. Maybe Sao Paulo or Asia or Rio de Janeiro or New York ruined me, as those were the cities I was living in for the 5 years prior to living in San Francisco. For others coming from elsewhere, I can see why without those other refences, a person might think SF is amazing. Especially compared to the rest of the U.S.

I known an Indian girl (here in the States) whose father did work in Dubai (finance). I understand there are a disproportionate amount of Indian people there but from what I understand they're primarily low-skilled, low-wage manual labor. The women are probably prostitutes or employed in service jobs (i.e hotel industry).

I guess there are a lot of trafficked women (and men and children) in the region. Since I know someone will want links...

Human Trafficking & Modern-day Slavery - United Arab Emerites (UAE)

Dubai, New Destination on Trafficking Map

Of course I can't speak for certainty since I've never been to the region (and have no desire to do so). Anyone here been to Dubai???

Seoul has two or three very large red light areas and the St. Pauli district of Hamburg has a small Amsterdam style red light district also. Paris used to have large red light areas, but I believe most of them were shut down or highly regulated during the 90s. I'm surprised Berlin didn't turn into a bigger sin city with the influx of people from the East.

Surprisingly, Frankfurt has one of the largest, yet less publicized, red light districts in front of the Hauptbanhof main train station. Hundreds of women there with many that come from as far away as South America and Far East Asia. Very few Germans or western Europeans actually work there, but there are some. There's probably more international people of every race, color, and gender working in that one area of Frankfurt than in any other place on earth that I know of.
