Does this woman look mixed to you too? She is from Nigeria.

Having a Horrible day? This quick tip might help! - YouTube

How about her? AA or West African?
Na she doesn't look mixed. She is very dark, her nose is wide, her lips are full, and she has curly hair. The first link doesn't work.

I think most people seem to think pure Africans should have very large lips, really wide noses and darkskin. And that is not true. Many Nigerians look like this woman above

Well, she is African American, and I know a lot of Black Americans who look like her. People keep posting photos of the lighter skin Black Americans saying they are the norm

I wouldn't take LA as a representative example of what AA's look like. These people have probably been interbreeding in the same community for generations.

I live in NYC, the most diverse city in the world, so I probably think it has a better examples of what typical AA's look like, not someplace in the deep South.

NYC has a lot of immigrants though.

But why cant LA be used? They are still African Americans. Why would some other place provide a better representation??

More and more Africans straighten their hair and bleach their skin these days.

One also has to say that those Africans who make it into the media are mostly those who are not really typical of their peoples. African models or actresses for instance often look more Western than the average. Same thing as in India by the way.

I suppose in places like rural Mississippi one might find the most authentic AA's in terms of genetics

Louisiana, like many places in the deep South, have highly insular, interbreeding communities. Beijing has a better representation of the average Chinese person than some portion of rural northern China. Same thing.

I'd say not. See above.

AA's that have ancestors who have been in geographical flux, e.g., most northern blacks, are best representative.

So what if they do? Are they not apart of the African American community? I feel like there's a bit of prejudice by preferring to choose the lighter more mixed looking AAs as a representation of the black community over the ones down south. One could easily say the other AAs can not be a represenation because they do a lot of mixing.

And I live in the midwest and I have seen AAs who look like the individuals in the Hurricane Katrina photos.

She doesn't bleach her skin.

It's wrong to generalize & accuse indigenous Africans who are brownskin of bleaching their skin. Her look is the norm in Nigeria. Being brownskin is not out of the ordinary

Does every Caucasion with darkskin tan? Should I accuse the Italians of sitting in the sun even though some are naturally darker ?

Hm, maybe because free blacks moved to the north early on, while mixing was not allowed in the north, either?
