What kind of guns are illegal? I hope you are just referring to hand guns. Otherwise, how could you hunt for your own food if you were starving? You would have to turn to the government for a handout. Then you would not be free.

If you are going for the stone-age scenario, humans have survived millions of years before rifles were invented

True enough, however the odds of most people being able to flintknapp a spear tip, affix it to a shaft and kill a dear or rabbit with it is highly unlikely. Wouldn't you say?
Well, the irony of this would be that New Zealand scores really high with "blue" (indicating the most free category), straight across the board.
Of course, in New Zealand, "they" have to approve the name you give your baby.

That is the case in most countries, it makes sense in order to protect children from the stupidity of their parents.
Nor can one change one's name in most countries, while it is simple in the US.
I don't think humans are even made to live that free, we are made to live in complex societies, which by nature are full of rules and laws and compromises.
Everything on earth is made to live that free. A person should be able to participate or "opt out" of civilization if they wish without having to participate in the insanity. In days past, you could do this. But it's getting harder to do every day.
I am not so old but I can remember when you could get a bank account without a photo ID, a driver's license with only a birth certificate, a post office box with no identification at all. You might argue that these are dangerous times and all this is only for our "protection" but I disagree. These restrictions do not make us safer they just erode our personal freedoms and give the authority figures the means to control us.

Well, while some elderly might not be able to do that anymore, they might also not be able to aim a rifle, either. After all, when you assume that somehow society falls back to a stone-age stage, there won't be glasses and contact lenses anymore, either I don't want hungry retirees shooting all over the place
Here in Portugal many people have gardens that look like mini farms, many have animals as well. They don't have to hunt them or anything.
Nor do I understand that whole scenario. We have farmers who produce our food, we have specialist for every kind of job, there is no reason to assume that will ever change. That entire survivalist crap has never arrived in Europe, and I hope it stays that way...

Humans have brought that upon themselves. There would not be a law on the mandatory use photo ID's if freer humans had not abused their freedom and forced government to protect people from fraud etc.
Also, that entire anonymity thing is so unrealistic. Up until recently humans never were anonymous. In smaller societies everyone knew your face, your name, what you did in life, etc. Now all of a sudden we have that strange notion that we have a right not to be recognized by others.
Okay, it seems the discussion has veered off into areas more suited to other forums on C-D (not surprising, given the OP).
