Antipodes are two points that are exactly opposite each other on the surface of the world. Here is a map that shows the correspondence of antipodes:

I've been to Paraguay/Taiwan, and Ecuador/Sumatra, but not sure if in exact points. But my overland route through Northern Chile and across South China would have crossed at some exact point.

Even by air, there are very few trans-oceanic flight paths that would fly over antipodes on land.

The antipode for Seattle that is a land location is Madagascar and also Northern Antarctica. Lol

The antipode for New York City that is a land location is Perth Australia.

I never traveled to the antipodes for New York City and Seattle. I assume it involves at least 27 hours to 38 hours total of travel just one way, and at least 1 different airplane transfer.

I'd say Kerguelen Island would be the closest antipode for Seattle...

New York City or Boston is the furthest I've travelled from home, Perth, WA. I once dreamnt I went through the centre of the earth and landed up in Bermuda, in the North Atlantic, also in the British realm. I don't recall ever seeing pictures or videos of Hamilton, but the buildings in my dream were uncannily similar. It was a kind of a spooky dream I remember the tour guide taking us to some cemetery and then disappearing. She turned out to be a ghost. It's almost like my astral self travelled there lol.

The part of Brazil that is antipodal to the Philippines is pretty remote and off the beaten track. It would be a strip of Brazil from Guyana down to the west Paraguayan Chaco. For Manila, it would be about 500 miles northwest of Brasilia, in Mato Grosso, where there are numbered roads, but no towns to speak of.

To locate the antipodes exactly, find the coordinates of the base, then use the same latitude but switch N and S, and subtract the longitude from 180 and switch E and W. You can find an exact location for known coordinates on Google Earth, just by sweeping the mouse pointer across the area map.

This is very cool.
The antipodes for most of my locations are in the center of oceans.
