A completely stupid and useless survey conducted using the worst possible methodology.
The survey was done by an online company that "inspires our members to find, share, and enjoy the best of their neighborhoods by connecting them with handpicked local businesses."
The LivingSocial Vacation survey was conducted online in February 2012 among 4,000 Americans in the top 20 media markets (DMAs) and 1,600 additional respondents in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
And then it was interpreted and presented to us in a link from a local Fox News station, to further diminish its objective value.
I agree...
and nearly as cheesy as some of the 'opinion threads' put up on the CD Board, almost regardless of topic.
There are "bad" and "nice" tourists in any country. It also depends where you go to observe them as there are different Americans in Cancun than in Rome.
Go to the Spanish Islands and observe disgusting Brits, Dutchmen and Germans drinking alcohol out of plastic buckets in the Morning. Although they seem alright when visiting Australia.
So it depends on the age group and location. So an obnoxious American, Canadian or German will be just as obnoxious in his home country when partying.
It seemed to me that the fellow Americans I ran into in Europe all tried so hard to not be the typical "Loud American" that they come across as boring, almost timid.
My favorite travelers are Australians. I've never met one I didn't like.
Not in Spain...loud they are because they have their shrilling accent, but they are rather popular. I guess that in Europe, Americans are more popular than Europeans. They tip and they are more easygoing.

I am in the tourist industry in Spain and I lived in the US. In the US you certainly find people that can't handle their drink and love to raise hell, but not comparable to Brits.....No way.
Germans get real drunk after drinking five large jars, but they don't move much, Italians are a pain drunk or not...
