What I find interesting in Switzerland is if you talk to people they say their attachment is to Switzerland the whole country, but if you talk to them a bit what they have in mind whent they talk about "their Switzerland" is often quite limited to the area of the country where their language group lives (German Switzerland, French Switzerland, Italian Switzerland).
They don't seem to harbour any ill-will towards the other language groups though, and there aren't really any serious separatist movements there.
Oh, I wasn't certain if we were meaning "separatist", I guess I was thinking just "regionalist" also counted.

I agree with Belgium. I forgot to mention Belgium on my first list. The other one I forgot to mention is Switzerland.
They both express their state/provincial identities differently.
Switzerland seems regionalist about it without being separatist while Belgium is more separatist about it.
I think Belgium should stay as a single country without areas of it separating. It seems better for Belgium to stay as a single country. Do you agree?
This is my new list that includes those 2 countries:
USA
China
India
Canada
France
Spain
Italy
Germany
Belgium
Switzerland
Brazil
Mexico
Indonesia
I think you should include the UK on that list. I mean, hello, Scottish independence?

I also forgot to mention the UK and thought I had it on the list for this topic. I was going to edit my recent post and include the UK but it is too late to edit that post.
Yeah, other than Scotland state/provincial identity and idea of independence movement, there is also a similar situation with Wales, even though that is less distinguished and popular by the locals compared to Scotland. Also, there is the England and Ireland conflict that was related to Northern Ireland.
The England part of UK itself seems to have a South vs. North state/provincial identity.

I'm not sure about Brazil or Indonesia but I agree with everything else.
USA has very unique cultures and people are proud of that, especially Texans and Alaskans.
China is like an artificial country, made up of places that really don't want to be China, like Taiwan.
Canada has Quebec of course.
Spain has Catalonia, Galicia, and Basque Country which all have their own languages.
Italy has regional languages too, and the North of Italy dislikes the South.
Germany is a country made up of previous 'states' like Bavaria and Saxony, so I agree with this.
Belgium.. well, languages.
While the French speaking part of Switzerland I believe doesn't like the rest.

I don't think we meant separatist either, though it is often a side-product of regionalism. Still, it is interesting that Switzerland is relatively untouched by separatist rumblings.
Being just across the border in the old US of A, this is what I understand. Plus, I have quite a few Canadian friends who winter down here. They say the same thing....
