I've always found the LA vs NYC rivalry on C-D to be pretty strange.

These two cities are absolutely NOTHING like each other.

There ain't much rivalry between Leeds and Manchester these days, actually, if any.

It's not just about being "like each other". LA & NYC are so polar and very different. Like I said, the rivalry between these two cities are deeper. It's not shallow and superficial. It's not just about what you see. It's more than the Chicago pizza vs NYC pizza. Rivalry has nothing to do with being similar. Sometimes rivals are very opposite to each other.

I think Sao Paulo's true rival is Mexico City instead Rio...
São Paulo and Mexico City has about 20 million of inhabitants in the metropolitan area and both are rated as the World’s top 10 richest cities and both dispute to be the business capital of Latin America…

(I don't see Rio and SP as rival and most of my friends in Rio or SP too. The two cities are very different... It would be like NY vs Miami)

Toronto vs. Chicago. I've seen many a thread drag out for endless pages of nasty bickering only to end up locked.

Toronto vs. Montreal or Toronto vs. Sydney aren't as evenly matched as the Great Lake's two largest cities.

How can you guys miss Moscow vs St. Petersburg - the battle of the older and current capital of Russia, and the newer but former capital of said country?

You probably don't live in Brazil, and your brazilian friends must have said that as their own opinion, not in general......everyone in this country knows this rivalry does exist.......São Paulo vs Mexico City is something I've never heard of, ever.......and by the way, as someone has already pointed out, the cities don't have to be necessarily similar for a rivalry to exist......

These seem to be the top 10 biggest city vs. city rivalries in the world:

1. London vs. Paris

2. Shanghai vs. Hong Kong

3. New York City vs. Shanghai

4. Mumbai vs. Delhi

5. Moscow vs. Saint Petersburg

6. Sydney vs. Melbourne

7. Sao Paolo vs. Mexico City

8. New York City vs. Hong Kong

9. Toronto vs. Montreal

10. Stockholm vs. Copenhagen

After that, other city vs. city rivalries that probably come close to the top 10 are:

Seattle vs. Vancouver
Tokyo vs. Seoul
Singapore vs. Taipei
Milan vs. Rome
Barcelona vs. Madrid
