This ^^

When I was a kid in Edmonton, everyone hated Calgary. I remember the Battle of Alberta in hockey was particularly heated--back when both Edmonton and Calgary were contenders--especially in the mid 1980s to 1990. CFL as well.

I taking school trips to Calgary in elementary school where we would go around taunting the Calgary kids at the Calgary Zoo or Fort Calgary with the claim that Edmonton was the "City of Champions" and Calgary always lost. One of the parental chaperones got carried away and almost got a guy in Dairy Queen ready to fight. Heh, that's Alberta...

Outside Canada, honestly not many people have heard of Quebec City.
Size doesn't matter. Montreal's biggest rivalry is still with Quebec City, for a a variety of reasons.

This isn't about Football because alot of international countries don't play it anyway. It is about economies etc.

No one mentioned the EU, other than you.
I've yet to meet anybody in real life who has said that Moscow was in Europe. Nobody thinks that. It might be on the European continent but its not in Europe.

American definitions of Europe are often different to European definitions.

Are they? Maybe between the politicians such is David Cameron. But I doubt your average brit gives it much thought.

I would say we have more links with New york. If you look at heathrow airport you can see this:

2,7million flew from heathrow to jfk in 2011
1,2million flew from heathrow to ewr in 2011

1.2 million flew from heathrow to paris in 2011

Let the numbers speak. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Heathrow_Airport

Charleston SC and Savannah GA like to compete in terms of which is better for tourism and history since both are very beautiful historic cities with lots of old southern charm. Even visitors who have visitied both cities are very opinionated about which one is better! Sometimes New Orleans is also thrown into the mix but there definitely is a rivalry between Charleston and Savannah.

Some people in Atlanta like to compete with New York or Boston and Atlanta is still seen as the financial center and "capital" of the South (despite competition from Charlotte) and it can be a matter of Southern pride over the perceived dominance of the Northeast.

There is of course a rivalry indeed between the drug cartels of Tijuana and Juarez, Mexico!
