What do you consider "multicultural" versus "monocultural" (with any associations/connotations in your view). (houses, cars)

An American College Town where 25% of the students are international students is not Multicultural, according to the European definition.

There are some College Towns in the U.S. with a large presence of foreign students, but the only "multicultural" presence (according to the European definition) are local yokels, "disadvantaged minorities", bible belters in the South and rednecks of all sorts.

10.9% of the population of Leeds is not White British, but that's a much lower number than somewhere like London, where does it stand? Multicultural? Or not? Because there's definitely a lot of multicultural diversity here, from Indian to Chinese to Polish.

The word "multiculturalism" is almost never used in France, I don't know how you could make a definition.

When in the past ? Because in my 21 year life, I almost never heard this word in France.
"Immigration", "intégration", "diversité", "métissage", "communautarisme"... are frequently used but not words like "multiculturelle" or "multiculturalisme".
So how could you give the definition of a word in a country, if this word is almsot never used ?

It was used in the past, during the 70's and 80's. During the emergence of FN.
Spanish borrowed the buzzword from French.
"Diversidad" and "mestizaje" are used here, but are the absolute patrimony of Caviar Leftists, Preppy Socialist and Snooppy lovers.
Spain borrowed the word because at that time we had 0 immigration and no word to describe such a situation.

I think the terms "multicultural," like the term "family values," are so driven by political agendas that they are useless terms upon which to try to base a discussion.

Simply look at any of the C-D threads in which they are the subject of the OP.

Obviously, 'multi-culturalism' is a political term to soothe an entrenched population that may fear a siege, which is why 'mono-cultural' was coined to promote the idea that those concerned about different people with different beliefs being integrated into a dominant culture are against allowing cultural differences to co-exist, as they may uproot traditional belief systems which may cause social tensions and the ususal drama such integrations create. Basically, I see the definition (in America) as follows; that a 'monoculturalist' is a fear-mongering, reprehensible and ignorant heathen while a 'multicuturalist' is open and free and a courageous hero. Neither mythical definition takes into account reality since it has been proven by observation that people are concerned about feeling good at whatever the cost and merely need something to feel good about usually, at least in America.
