I live in the U.S. and don't think of people in terms of social class.
There is a food chain no matter where you live..It does not have anything to do with social- There are the highly spirited and intelligent- the slightly less intelligent-the intelligent- the average intelligent persons- the slightly below in intelligent..the dull minded - the utterly stupid- the dumb and dumber...Okay so that is sort of amusing. Do you really think that some oil executive living in the "U.S." does not look at you as lower class? You might think you are classless and free- BUT the billionaire certainly looks upon those with less money or no money as belonging to a class- Myself I don't believe in it- nor do you- but some do..it exists.
Go to a really bad run-down ghetto in a city/metro area like Detroit, Baltimore or Chicago. Then go to one of the affluent areas in these same metros, and tell me you don't think of people in terms of social class.
Here in the U.S., the lower class is usually referred to as "lower income" or "poor." They make up about 15% of the population. The people in this class are not usually looked upon in a positive light. They are considered to be less educated and sometimes less hard-working. They are often associated with things like street crime, illicit drugs, gangs, anti-social behavior and jail time. It's considered to be a failure of the American dream.
Is it the same in your country? Are the lower class people in your country viewed in a different light than they are in America?
Lower income has little to do with very much in many cases. Obviously there are members of society inflicted by alcohol or drugs or mental illness and through bad choices or bad deals in life.
A lot of folk on the lower end work far harder than those in better positions but get far less reward. People need to be judged on how they perform as human beings not position or their earnings. That in many respects is a sick society that only respects such things.
Always enjoyed the fact when the Brain of Britain was won by a working class London cabbie bloke back in the eighties.
50% of good fortune is said to be down to luck anyway.....
I agree that the poor are frowned upon to some degree everywhere, but I would think there'd be big differences between the way they are viewed in the US and the way they are viewed in, say, Scandinavian countries, which have very high taxes to ensure low income inequality.
In what nation are poor people not viewed at least a little negatively, even if it's mitigated with feelings of sympathy or charity?
Compared to other nations Australia's poor aren't treated TOO bad, I mean there are a lot of charities, services, non-profit organisations helping the poor, and while people don't suffer dole bludgers gladly, I think we'll try to help someone who is down and out.
In other nations, especially those without a welfare net, life can be tough for the poor. You see some beggars here but nothing like even in the US.
Sadly the poorer members of society are receiving more blame for the position they find themselves in with no small thanks being stigmatised by the right wing media pushing their own agenda.
People forget monumental change has been the order of the day over the recent decade. Jobs that served the working class manual type worker has declined and often migrated to poor developing world countries leaving folk jobless and clueless about just how to adapt to said changes.
The way a lot of first world countries treat their poor is a modern day outrage IMO. Just because the better off got where they are through hard work doesn't mean everyone will get the same result, a well off doctor got where he is through university etc well what about the single mum who has to work as a cleaner during the day and behind a bar at night just to scrape enough money to literally JUST get by. is she ant less ''hard working''? But because she maybe talk with an accent, she had a baby young, she has no car, or any ''work experience'' (even though she has worked since she was 16) she can't get her foot in the door to better herself even if she wanted to.

In many respects a country that prides itself as America does it can in part be seen as an embarrassment that so many in the population are forced through circumstances to live as such in the richest nation on earth.
As such such folk may breed resentment among sectors of the mainstream population.

If only that was true. So many in positions have got there through many factors rather than necessary hard work. It could be knowing the right people,manipulation of the system,corruption, and a host of other reasons.

Just because someone has money even loads of it does not mean he has class nor intelligence. It means he has learnt by what ever means the way to make money. No respect due until other criteria met.
