I never watched cricket and I don't know the basics. It looks similar to baseball, but then again I don't even watch baseball. I'm not much of a sports person anyways. I guess whoever wins I will cheer for.
I have never seen cricket but like most Americans in these matters, consider myself an expert. I believe it's basically like Over The Line played in San Diego without the funny team names or cute women played by what I gather as ice cream men on lunch break. One of them runs at the batter (who is called the "Sticky Wicket") and pretends to throw a ball at him. The batter swings his 2 X 4 (probably has a different name in metric talk) at the pretend ball, based upon how far he thinks it will go, he starts running in a random direction. If he can get back to the croquet hoops before the other team of ice cream men pretend to find his ball, then he gets a "chalk" and gets to bat again. Only one team bats each game and if they are able to knock all the pretend balls into the deep grass, then they win.
From what I gather, these matches are held at secret locations in the woods and it is against the law for spectators to witness the event.
Where I come from, the local team was made up of Jamaicans and Pakistanis. That said, I would root for England. I usually do as I put only a handful of other countries above England in international sports events.
I would say that I know 1000% more about cricket than the average American, which is to say I know what a match/ the field positions look like and I know what a wicket is. And jack squat else :-)
Heh, Pakistan played England in the 1992 final, with all the Aussie fans backing Pakistan.
Shall we say there is some history between England and Australia in cricket, Aussie cricket fans back Australia first, then any team playing England.
Any team but England.. But have Aus passport.
For rugby though.. Alway an all blacks supporter, even when they play Oz.
Why would Americans even care about a cricket match?
There are some of us who do lol
It was so hard for me to find a place just to watch the last world cup, I had traveled at least 2+ hours just to find a bar where I'd be able to watch the game.
