Ones I been to: Adelaide and Canberra. Ok to visit for a day or 2 but after I stay longer I get bored. Generally cities over 2 million with great public transport I find the ones not boring at all.
Essentially, the likes of Dallas, Houston and Atlanta are just sprawling messes, more gigantic villages than large cities, cities that large should be a lot denser with a lot more to see and do. Even my city of 750k could rival the attractions of these boring sprawling southern US cities.
Billy Connolly called the Glasgow housing estates "deserts with windows". I think that's a fitting definition for some cities. Some don't even have windows, mind...
I found Melbourne to be quite boring, but Sydney was a different story. I think Houston is quite boring, but a great place to raise a family.
You found Melbourne quite boring? That is strange as I prefer Melbourne than Sydney. I lived there for years as there was always something happening there. In addition there are hidden bars and shops in the city and small side streets. Plus every time I visit there there is always something new there.
