Why do insane people become leaders? (employment, schools, storage)

If Robert Mugabe were to seek employment based on his current CV, he would be unemployable. The same could be said about Pol Pot, Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Mao and many others.

However they all impressed people who followed them uncritically. Not only that even when it was obvious that they were leading people down the path to ruin they continued to support him. Many of the loyal supporters do (did) not benefit financially or in terms of getting access to power. Yet they remain loyal. The person is portrayed by their supporters as 'misunderstood', too right any army of psychiatrists would have a job trying to understand them.

Because when hard times hit people:

1) Become extremely polarized and go to the extremes of the political scale.
2) Fall for charasmatic leaders
3) Think things cant get worse.

I liked the answers so far. Psyco people are very manipulative. Also, we must remember that the more centered in healthiness,Heart-felt God, quality community, the less likely we can be manipulated.

Regarding the banking elite...and Mugabe...it is being predicted now by top economists that are not government-hired that severe inflation/hyperinlfation may occur in U.S. due to the massive printing of money. REad up on Argentina...they apparantly did an infrastructure bailout which eased unemployment and things started to look prosperous...until things became more expensive and more expensive and then out-of-control. (Please verify this info as I am just learning about it). Apparantly Boliva also had a similar problem but the government handled it very well and no civil liberties were taken away.

When things are out of control, people want a Messiah. It is time to break out of dependency on money as the banking elite will have more control of you if you don't. There are many many ways to start doing this: long term food storage; gardens; etc. Letting go of individualism and helping your neighbor is how I understand Boliva survived. A tyrannt loves individualism (everyone out for themselves.) God said Love Your Neigbhor for a reason! (Not to get too preachy).

Because there is often a fine line between genius and insanity, and because insane people often do see other people as people. The lack of empathy enables them to move ahead faster and to lord it over others. Insane people can also be highly charismatic.
