Hi, I'm thinking of a trip to Costa Rica , perhaps for six months or so.

maybe pick up some English teaching work to fund it.

any good?

San Jose was the general idea.

how is it there for life in general, prices ,girls etc?

what's the scene in Jaco like, say compared with Bangkok etc...

are the people friendly etc...

I am a white male by the way.

I spent a month in CR in 2011, I enjoyed it tremendously, one of the better countries for snowbirding, better even than Thailand , maybe even Mexico (because of the security problems there), I wouldn't be adverse to retire in CR in a few years time, but I would choose the highlands (temperate) over the extremely hot coasts.

ok, sounds good.

I hear things in general are fairly pricey there though

how does it compare to US or Europe for general expenses , food, rent etc...

Last year it was 30% cheaper than Eurozone countries, 20% cheaper than US$. So while not as much a bargain as Thailand , still worth it (and it's close to the US, so airfares are cheaper).
Personally I prefer the crowd in CR than in Thailand, I went to Quepos last year, Koh Lanta this year, too many eurotrash there, and believe it or not , more touristy than the CR beach (more resorts, more stupid "full moon parties", more tattoeed skinheads with beer bellies, more difficulty with the language - but I do speak some Spanish-). Worth to notice both Costaricans and Thai people are very polite people , they appreciate when you say thank you ("ko kum kap") or youre welcome ("con mucho gusto") in every sentence.

for sure, I agree with you there about Thailand - very touristy, full of beer swilling trailer trash!

I guess you must have been to Pattaya - that place tops it for low life , good fun though, heh, heh
