This. India is at the heart of South Asia, along with Pakistan, Lanka and Bangladesh. Extended the region includes Afghanistan (strong ties to Pakistan), Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan.

I would say, if the choice is truly binary, Europe.

Most of the languages spoken are related, albeit distantly, to European languages even to the point of there being some recognizable cognates.

The roots of Hinduism from the Vedas are parallel to the religions of pre-Christian Europe with certain deities and myths being clear analogues to Greek and Norse counterparts.

They eat dairy. :-)

Indo-Iranic peoples, the Scythians in particular, had a huge impact on Germanic and Slavic cultures during the age of migrations and while not Indian proper, they could arguably be seen as a remnant culture of the original Indo-European culture that eventually became Indian and European.

On the other hand, apart from the influence of Buddhism and import/export of certain goods, India seems to have had little relationship with East Asia.

Some years ago, cell phones and smart phones were more popular in India than they were in the west. Even today, cell phone coverage in India is better overall than the U.S. The reason is the technological influence of East Asian countries, which were more advanced in these areas early on.

Most of the Southeast Asia is in the Indosphere (Indian-influenced) rather than the Sinosphere (Chinese-influenced) with the exception of Vietnam. So I'd say India has much more in common with East Asian, specifically Southeast Asia. I think people get too caught up on looks and they think that Southeast Asians & Indians are completely different culturally

India has a very much Asian culture to me than European. They have a strong moral ethic code, something most European countries do not have these days.

India has historically been a much bigger influencer than it has been influenced from either Europe or East Asia. It's such a distinctive entity with so much inner diversity that this seems pretty much unanswerable.
