The Pacific Ocean extends more than halfway around the world. Its easternmost point - in Chile - is at 70°W. And its westernmost point, excluding the South China Sea and the various straits and other seas along its Asian fringe - is somewhere around 121°E.

Longitude range is 169°, so let's say only little less than a halfway around the world.

That's true. But even only counting waters(361,000,000km2), the Pacific Ocean(165,000,000km2) constituted less than a half amount on the Earth.

This got me wondering: what is the shortest regularly scheduled nonstop airline flight to take in all 4 hemispheres (Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western)?

So far the shortest one I've found is Brazzaville to Abidjan, 1489 miles.

Canada closer to Svalbard (Norway) than Iceland and also closer to Nova Zembla (Russia) than Lithuania.

Portland, Oregon is closer to Nepal than Portland, Maine.

Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine is 2,543 miles (4093 km)

Portland, Oregon to Kathmandu, Nepal is 7,093 miles (11,416 km)

I think what he meant is that Is closer from Portland, oregon to nepal, than from portland, maine to nepal

New Zealand is closer to Mexico than it is to India.

It's also closer to South America than it is to Japan.
