The southernmost part of Alaska is around the same latitude as Northern Ireland

At one time, the southernmost border of Russia was as far south as Virginia Beach,VA.

If Chile were placed on its exact latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, it would stretch from Jamaica to southern Alaska.

Although China and the USA are roughly the same size, mainland China is actually stretched out longer from north to south than the lower 48 states.

From north to south, China would be the equivalent from southern Cuba to Edmonton, Canada. In fact, the northernmost part of China is further north than Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy,Russia, on the Kamchatka Peninsula and some other Russian cities, such as Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Tolyatti, Samara, Irkutsk, Voronezh, and Saratov.

The northernmost part of Japan is further north than some parts of Russia. However, it is still further south the the U.S. city of Seattle.

- Until South Sudan became an independent nation, it was possible to go between the Atlantic Ocean and Red Sea traveling through only two countries (Sudan and the DRC).
- The construction of the Panama Canal technically changed the prominence of Denali in Alaska, but geographers refused to acknowledge it.
- Every point on earth gets exactly the same duration of sunlight each year (neglecting cloud cover). It's the distribution and intensity that varies.
- The second-largest English-speaking population in the world resides in India. Third is Pakistan, fourth is the Philippines, and fifth is Nigeria. The UK is sixth.
- Southeastern Atlanta is further west than Midwestern Detroit
- The Niger River's source is in Guinea, less than 200 miles from the ocean, but the river travels north to the middle of the Sahara Desert in Timbuktu and goes through four other countries before it finally reaches its mouth in Nigeria.

Liechtenstein and Uzbekistan are the only double-landlocked nations in the world. You have to cross two nations to reach an ocean.

Bolivia has been a landlocked nation since 1883. It used to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean until Chile took it in the War of the Pacific.

I'm guessing easier access to the Pacific mean easier access to Alaska.
