I'm not sure if this is the right part of the forum to post this, but I'm curious about emigrating to another country (Canada, in Europe, et cetera) as a self-employed freelancer. I've already had clients from around the world because my business is done remotely on the computer. Since I wouldn't have to get a job physically wherever I move, would this make it easier for me to be able to emigrate? What's the protocol?

Thanks for any info!

Just off the top of my head, I would suspect that most countries would not give you a residence visa unless you can demonstrate some kind of financial security not dependent on a local source of income. If not a job in which you would be paid from abroad, then a deposit or proof of sufficient funds, or a contract from a prospective buyer of whatever you create as a freelancer. Or a sponsor in-country who would guarantee you.

From some perspective - yes. You can only expect a residence by following the investment route - and $1mln may not be enough.

I agree with the above. You might also want to post your question on the Legal Immigration Forum.

The answer is going to be different for every country. eg for the UK it's not possible as of April this year when there were significant rule changes.
