Shouldn't they have more in common than just one thing? Even more in common than half a dozen things? Bakersfield, CA - Riyadh, Saudi Arabia have absolutely nothing in common they are like different planets. Plenty of the world has oil.

Chicago, I might compare it with London, but then you could also compare NYC city with London. I think the closest comparison could be Toronto, as far as Chicago is concerned, followed by Paris, and then Berlin.
Actually, Tel Aviv (1970s) quite often brought me to mind of an earlier era in Chicago (1950s), with its Eastern Europe Emigre culture. Maybe even more so, Milwaukee.

Yes they should.

Honestly the majority of the comparisons in this thread have been laughable at best.

Maybe to you, but it's the best many of us can do.

I think both of you have had some fantastic comparisons and some questionable ones- that I would really love to hear reasons for.

Ohh and by the way, I've participated in your thread. Post number 32 actually: //www.city-data.com/forum/26529141-post32.html

I'd like to make an amendment on my prior post (post number 32) that for the Chicago tier, Frankfurt isn't in the same tier in terms of importance but it's somewhat similar. I also wanted to point out that the Bay Area which I made a cross with Osaka to is not on Osaka's level either but they share some similarities in innovation & all the other things I mentioned.

Seattle and Busan: both are major Pacific Rim ports and they have similar metro populations.

It's hard for me to tell if it's joking or not
