Large parts of Sweden were historically Danish (Southern Sweden) and Norwegian (western Sweden). Long time ago, though. I believe the people in those regions consider themselves pretty solid Swedes, not willing to go back.

Moosylania, the home of Rocky and Bullwinkle.
I was born there (International Falls, MN and Fort Frances, Ont.)
The USA has always insisted it's part of Canada, while Canada insists it's part of the USA.

there's a finger into Lake-of-the-Woods off of the 49th. parallel, giving the USA commercial fishing rights to the lake,
and all the bugs and mosquitos and black flies and horse flies it could ever want.

Well North Dakota should definitely be part of Canada, have the accent and go on the exact same way. Toronto should be part of the USA. In Europe maybe Portugal being part of Spain.

No way. All of Ontario can stay in Canada, we keep ND, and take SK and MB

Indeed, the age of 'nation states', one could argue, only really began after the end of World War II as colony after colony declared independence. If one considers the way in which boundaries moved and changed during Wars in the past 100 years one can see that many regions that were previously firmly entrenched as part of say x nation/ethnic group were annexed by another country. The most obvious example was the Nazis during World War II (perhaps a legacy of Prussian expansionism) although after their defeat much of these conquests and more were confiscated.

In Europe there are many examples. France gained Alsace-Lorraine. I believe the Czechs regained the Sudetenland, which correct me if I'm wrong is ethnically and culturally German. The Russians got a bit of Prussia, that enclave near Poland. Poland itself gained a lot of east Prussia/Germany which I believe has become Polish now.

In Asia, Isaan Province in Northeast Thailand is really Lao linguistically and culturally. Thailand lost the southernmost provinces of Kelantan and northern Perak to Malaysia. China has in it's territories Tibet and Xinjiang (although you could argue China has as much right to Tibet as the US has to Alaska or Hawaii) as well as Inner Mongolia. The Republic of China (Taiwan) actually claims Mongolia as well.

The Soviet Union of course ruled many independent nations from Estonia to Kazakhstan. One could argue there are still areas in the northern Caucasus that could vie for independence. But then you'd have to consider numerous other examples like Basques in Spain. The Armenians took over a part of Azerbaijan. Kurdistan was annexed into Iran. I guess one could go on forever trying to split every ethnic group into it's own country.
Pretty much answered your own question - virtually all countries carved out by colonial powers underwent border demarcation in an extremely arbitrary fashion with little-to-no regard for differences in culture, language, religion, perceived ethnicity... and to the extent that these differences remain intact despite modern borders it could be said that they do not necessarily really 'belong' in the country they are in, though that does not mean they belong to a neighbor either - many could be claimed to deserve full self-determination and, therefore, full independence. Of course, the entire idea of a 'nation' is a relatively modern concept and the state, countries, etc. are inventions and not natural so the very idea of belonging to a 'country' is a construct of history...

The Italian speaking Swiss Canton of Ticino should be part of Italy.
Also south Tirol area of Italy should be part of Austria (the area directly south
of Brenner Pass, they are ethnically Austrian, and still speak german).

Should it though? Why? Why should language be the most important criteria? Ethnicity isn't a clear concept, it has many definitions and is in many ways the product of academia's obsession with classifying and differentiating things (in this case people) over the past several centuries. Why should states even be the primary form of political organization?
