Any Australians under 30 can live and work in Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Norway and Sweeden as well as the UK.

More Australians have Direct ancestry (Through living parents and Grandparents) to mainland europe than they do the UK.
She legally can, but how can she understand the customers for example in a restaurant or in a shop?? if she doesn't speak the local language it's quite difficult and she can be fired very fast...

Last year I went to a hostel in Spain where the receptionist couldn't speak any word of Spanish terrible... more for the boss who hired him than for himself.

Perth's northern coastal strip is a venerable 'pommie paradise.' I swear you often hear English accents more than Australian. Statistically some areas have as many as 40% alone born in the UK. Kiwis and South Africans too. So it's a pretty white area with a high % overseas born.

.
That is the catch I suppose, you have to want to learn a language.

If anyone likes it or not when you are constantly dealing with people from places all over the world which a lot of people are these day, you need a unifying language, for better or worse that language has turned out to be English across most of the world. Youth hotels are a prime example of where this sort of thing happens; it’s very common to see say a South Korean, Italian and Swede having a conversation in English.

I always tried to speak some of the local language in Europe, but when you are constantly changing from French to Spanish, to Italian, to Greek etc etc, it can be very confusing, however you should at least try. I gatherd from your post that you friend did not even do that.
