According to the Judeo-Christian calendar, Sunday is the first day of the week.
According to the International calendar, Monday is the first day of the week.
Saturday and Sunday are part of the weekend in most countries using the Gregorian calendar.
U.S. calendars do show Sunday as "first day of the week" for religious reasons, while Europeans show Monday as "first day of the week" do it for cultural reasons.
However, first day of the work and school week starts on Monday, incl. in the US
The issue is only relevant in Israel for companies doing business internationally/outside of Israel.
BTW, since Israel's 2nd large group of people are Muslim Arabs and Friday is the Muslim day of rest, it makes even more logical that Israel's weekend is Friday-Saturday.

OK, *sounds* good, but does not make sense for *me*.
If for religious reasons, and for religious reasons the last day of the week is the day of rest, why is it Saturday, and not Sunday, unless they use the Jewish reason ? As far as I know, which is not that far ... , Sunday is when most religions observe their religious day of rest ...
Aw shucks, we go round and round forever.
Nuff sed, I have more miniscule nonsense to worry about ...

Hebrew and traditional Christian calendar first day of the week is "Saturday", but Christian day of rest (Sabbath) is on Sunday.
I know it may be silly, but that's how it is. I do agree though that the US should change its calendar, but we got used to it now so it's not a big deal. In daily talk, we all know that Monday is the first day of the week, and Saturday and Sunday being part of the weekend.

True, since Saturday is the Sabbath for Jews, those that still take it seriously. Huge number? Interesting, I assumed most Muslims are in Palestine/Gaza.
In the western countries even most Christians don't take the sabbath seriously. It seems the idea of keeping the Sabbath 'holy' is going out of fashion. People in many professions like retail work on Sunday anyway.
Here you go again ... assuming ...
Have you checked the number of Muslims in Indonesia ?
Clearly he meant within that region, not the world. But it's true that many Arabs chose to become Israeli citizens rather than Palestinians, and about 20% of Israelis are Arabs, almost all of them Muslim but a few Christians and Druze. They are an important minority in Israel and have representation in the legislature and institutions.
What in God's name is your obsession with the day or days people have off work?
It's part of the western culture & quality of life
