Gila monsters live in North America, maybe you mean Komodo dragon. For Indonesia I would say Orang Utan.
For India I would say tiger as much as elephant.
The lion is a national and heraldic symbol of many countries where they don't live or have never lived, like England, Sri Lanka, Singapore.
New Zealand would be kiwi bird, the people are even called kiwis.
Llamas in Peru.
Moose for Canada.
Reindeer for Iceland.
Springbok in South Africa, after the rugby team.
