That flashing Citgo sign is etched into my memory as I was staying in a hotel across the road at Kenmore Square. I remember seeing another billboard at Fenway Park itself advocating gun control as well .

Nope. Las Vegas has a lot, but I don't consider it a global city or a financial hub.

it seems to be more a specificity of very capitalistic places. In France, the billbords are reletively more resctricted then in the Anglo world or in Asia. Especially in the histrorical center of cities; Paris might be a world city there are not many of those giant adverts outside of the peripherique boulevard (ring highway that surrounda inner Paris). That would be true in many places in Europe.
