No its an opinion, not everyone loves a city that smell like urine.
I'm a Canadian who loves Canadian cities, but c'mon man, it's friggin New York, aim within the same weight class, it's considered one of the world's greatest cities for good reason.

If you read the OP you would of read the very first words "Best countries to live in" so i highly doubt we would be talking about the Continent of America.
I am a Hungarian living in a suburb of New York in the USA, and it is one of the most boring places I have ever lived. There is absolutely no variation in anything whatsoever, and the entire place is either a frozen wasteland in the winter, or a burning wasteland in the summer. New York City is much worse. The amount of filth in there is indescribable. I have gone to other parts of the US, and it felt like I was not even on Earth anymore. I live here because even with the terrible enviroment and monotony, the people are nice, there are some nice things here, and I can make a good living (200k p year).
New York cannot be beaten by any Canadian cities. That's just a fact of life.
There is no denying the influence of NY. But the question is which country. One city, even New York, does not make a country. Plus not everyone wants to live in a massive city.

Hard to say, if it was 30 years ago it would be America but there is really good nightlife in both Canada and Australia these days.
