I mean the stereotypical Middle Eastern appearance that Americans are used to. Black hair, brown eyes, and skin color that is usually olive or light brown. As an American of that background I was wondering if I should bother going to Paris this summer for about 2 weeks for just a tour or whether I can expect a lot of hostility.

No you wont. You are just a tourist. If you act cool and be nice to people there would be no problem. However European people more resent the Middle Easterners who live in Europe that don't integrate in their countries.

I know that but my fear is being guilty by association, which is why I even asked in the first place.

Are you going to dress in American clothes? Are you going to speak English with an American accent? Will you be wearing an American haircut and maybe American eyeglasses?

Are you going to be cheerful and polite? Will you be in the tourist areas, or do you plan to sightsee in the slums and dangerous neighborhoods?

Really hard to imagine that you would encounter any problems. Paris is a very brown city, bardon my expression.

Indeed, on my subway line probably 10% of the customers are French of Maghrebi origin. There are also quite a few Iranians. You shouldn't worry.

When i was in Paris and Rome and Amsterdam i saw people of all colours and appearences there with no problem. In Paris some people were very nice and other rude, but that has nothing to do with how you look, but with the fact that some of them were douchebags :P. In Amsterdam everyone was super nice. In Rome most of the service people were huge jerks, but its so full of tourists that you can intereact with them.
