Is it just me or does the fact that the USA is ranked number 3 in terms of highest human development ( Norway being first and Australia second) while Canada is not even in the top ten seem odd? I mean Canadians report being happier, they live longer, have lower unemployment, lower crime rates, and less poverty..Is there something i am missing or is the report biased?

It's calculated like this:

Human Development Index - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can see the main differences here:

International Human Development Indicators - UNDP

Apparently Canada has fewer mean years of schooling, much lower GNI in purchasing power parity per person, and fewer telephone subscribers per 100 people. These are legitimate points.

But I would think the points i previously made are more important than having a telephone subscription..the GNI in purchasing power parity ill agree with, but what's the point in having an ability to purchase more items if you aren't a happier or healthier country? And regarding Canada having fewer mean years of schooling, that contradicts an article by the American magazine TIME which states that Canada, as of last September, was the most educated country in the world:
And the World’s Most Educated Country Is… | TIME.com

And Brazil in the middle of the list, ranked #85
We don't need to be in the top, but we remain behind Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela... in a bad situation even in comparison with our neighbours. Shame...

We dropped from #3 to #4. Got overtaken by those damn Yankees

^ That was a joke, btw. I'm just clarifying that before I find myself arguing with a bunch of offended Americans, lol.

I didn't expect China to rank so low (101) for some reason I expected them to rank more close to Russia (55).
