Obviously for shopping, culture , restaurants,old architecture, infrastructure
Madrid and Milan are in a different league.
Sydney has beautiful beaches , lots of nature and a much quieter type of lifestyle.
Madrid for nightlife is like nothing I've ever experienced before.
I could live in that city just because of it.
Canada as a whole is scenically amazing.
Couldn't live in such a cold country though.

History: Milan - Madrid - Sydney - Toronto
Shopping: Milan - Madrid - Sydney - Toronto
Sports: Madrid - Milan - Toronto - Sydney
Living: Milan - Sydney - Madrid - Toronto
Visiting: Milan - Madrid - Sydney - Toronto
Not sure why you'd rank Sydney last for food, as there you will find pretty much every cuisine and style of food on the planet with a few minor exceptions.
Visiting Melbourne right now.Will be in Sydney on Sunday.
So far have found the food scene in Melbourne to be of a very low quality and full of McDonald's, KFC , burger king's/ Hungry jacks and lots of poor representations of Asian restaurants.
The markets are very basic too
Queen Victoria market was a real letdown.
Spain and Italy are in a totally different league.
The Sushi I had in Madrid was the best I've had outside Japan.
The variety of good that exists in Spanish and Italian cuisines is extraordinary.
Foreign cuisines will never be huge in those countries.
Look at the lists of best restaurants in the world and you'll find the vast majority of restaurants are from SpainFrance or Italy.
Google up photo images of fresh food markets in those countries or a typical Danish deli I discovered while in Madrid called Museo del Jamón just to get an idea.
The food scene in Melbourne has been a big dissapointing.
Hopefully the Sydney food scene will surprise me.

Nonsense. Its easy to find quality restaurants (not fast food establishments) in Melbourne, ranging from low cost to up-market. Did you actually look?

This is hard to believe from what I know of Melbourne.
Sydney for me. If I ever left America it would be at the top of my list along with Auckland. Toronto's a bit too cold for my taste. I like Milan and Madrid a lot. But I'm not exactly fluent in Spanish and I don't speak any Italian.
What's so hard to believe?

Take a look at the London based Carter wings list of best food cities on earth.
All the Spanish, Italian cities are up there.
Melbourne is at number 65.
It's not your typical crappy manipulated survey to try and spruce up cities that have some correlation with them.
It's a very thoroughly worked out survey.
Now virtually every city has bogus surveys fooling the locals as to being number 1 at everything.
Reality is something else
So far I've been impressed with so many very green streets of alot of Melbourne suburbia or working class suburbs.
Not the food unfortunately.
