If your job requires you to travel, you will learn. If someone can live happily without knowing too much about the map, then he probably doesn't need that sort of knowledge in the first place.
Unless they are just curious, as I am. I haven't traveled much in my life, but I love to look at maps and globes and I know where most countries are (and ALL of the states).
I was so mad to see americans trying to answer simple questions like what color their flag is on youtube and its crazy. It had to be planned or actors because most americans i think know more than the average person on earth.
There are ignorant people everywhere. I even know a bunch of people who don't know the derivative of a constant is always zero.
I doubt it. At age 7 I could point to you where Paraguay or Afghanistan was on a map, and used to draw the world map for fun from memory.
Now the real question is, is this what the average Aussie child can do at that age, or is this what Trimac could do at age 7? I have a feeling the latter is true

Most American kids can point out where China, India, Japan, Canada, Mexico, UK, Italy, Australia and even Brazil at age 7. At age 13 i could point out where Tajikistan was and where togo was.

Very healthy curiosity.
Everyone has different interests,so it's totally fine(not ignorant)to be curious about things other than global geography. The bottom line is, you have to know where to find the information when the need arises.

put any of those on cross-hairs and the pctg. would go way up.
No.Every country has it's own stereotypes. Just because you have met a few, it doesn't mean we all are. You can't compare North Carolina to Belgium. I live in North Carolina and I would much rather be living in Belgium right now. Many Americans will only know the common European cities. London,Paris, Rome, Madrid. And the average European may only know. New York,LA,San Francisco,Chicago. I know there is more to ignorance than being to name cities. Many Americans are just often shocked by the culture of a new country. The typical American stereotype is no different than all Brits have terrible teeth, all Irish are heavy drinkers, all Russians are communists. I don't understand what the problem is. People are just having a little fun. Cut loose once in a while. We Americans are obese.

I sincerely doubt that. Sincerely.
