Yeah it's pretty cheap compared to the first world but you still need to watch out with your money.

Taxi's, bars even some restaurants seem to charge me less when i'm with my Thai GF or they just overcharge when i'm alone
Like you said if you know the place, know people there incl. their hobbies Thailand is a great affordable country.
But for single guys going to Thailand without zero experience (especially for those who have a high sex drive and drink), all i can say is watch out because if the people know your a 1st-timer/Rookie they try to get all the money out of you.
