I felt at home in Scotland almost immediately. I miss my family, especially my grandkids, but otherwise I don't miss anything. I don't get homesick. How could I? Home is where I live.

I do enjoying visiting the US, aside from seeing family. But to live there? No thanks. Even if I wanted to I wouldn't based on the healthcare.

How exactly did you apply for and get U.K. citizenship? Did you have to wait until you were retired?

I married a Scot in 2000. I was then eligible for UK citizenship after 3 years. Had nothing to do with retirement.

That's nice that you were able to get it that way. I wish I could just apply for UK citizenship and get it and keep my US citizenship. lol.

I love it here. Wouldn't want to move anywhere else. I sometimes think of how trapped I would feel if I lived in a tiny country like so many people in the world do. The other countries that are of similar size to America have pretty low living standards. America is the only country in the world that is so vast and so developed.

Oh. I almost forgot Canada and Australia. I might be able to live in those two countries. I really enjoyed Canada every time I went.

I would either choose New Zealand, Uruguay or Iceland (although it's nearly impossible to get citizenship if you are American). New Zealand and Iceland are peaceful and Uruguay has great farmland for organic farming.
