Gran Colombia (1821 - 1831) in South América.

Distrito del Sur (Southern Distric) = present day Ecuador.
Distrito de (District of) Cundinamarca o (or) Nueva Granada = present day Panamá, Colombia.
Distrito (District of) de Venezuela = present day Venezuela....or should I say..Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

*At one time, what it is now the Dominican Republic (Haití español at the time), sent an envoy to ask for admission and help with their independence from Haiti, unfortunately, the man in charge..Libertador Simón Bolívar...had gone south in a campaign.

Wasn't aware DRC ever was. But with two countries sharing the same name overall, guessed I missed that.

At one time - before Mobutu imposed the name "Zaire" on the bigger one - the two Congos were known as "Congo-Brazzaville" and "Congo-Kinshasa."

Ok cool thanks for that. These world forums are the part of C-D where I actually learn new things. I take it this was just after independence? I know the bigger one was a Belgian colony. I don't know much about the smaller one.
