Spain not intervened, yes Ireland. Spain was, is and will be much better than the poor Ireland.
It amazes me so distorted image we have of Spain and Spanish than abroad, one of the must important natios of Western history. The bad news are maximized and the good are minimized, that is what it seems.
Spain has a road network of world leading, high-speed train in Europe with more miles, we have more airports than, say, Germany (wich seems the example of all that is goood) The people in Spain are well connected, not isolated and enjoy a high quality of life. The largest companies in the world are Spanish constructure, architects and engineers world-renowned (Calatrava, Bofill, Moneo)
Spain has an envied health care system in the world, number one specialists in all types of transplants. It is the European country with the highest life expectancy. Great weather and fantastic cuisine with the best chefs and restaurants.
Culturally, Spain is the second country with more heritage recognized by UNESCO. The Museo del Prado is a world leader. Spain is much more than sun and sand. Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Granada, Córdoba...
Spain is the fourth largest economy in the euro zone and the top invertor in Latin America. Spain is one of the world´s economies principal. Pardon for my english

As I said you can't compare a large country like Spain with a small country like Ireland. Spain and Italy would be more comparable.

I think that Español should work for the Foreign Ministry, with Margallo. Excellent post. Spain lacks international promotion and a lobby that takes care of her image.
Spain is indeed comparable in many ways with Ireland, we are both "papists" and according to English, "we can't fly"..and we failed you with the Armada..
According to the Spanish Ambassador in Ireland 80 years ago, Irish are Spanish without sun and without wine.

You remind me of a Telediario of the Francoist era.
Our fellow Irish will be as rich or richer than Spain. Spain has more resources and infrastructure, a more qualified workforce and better communications...but we have political problems susceptible to blow up at any moment.
You are right about the distorted image of Spain and the lobbies against Spain...in many cases paid by Spanish interests.
Not only richer than Northern Ireland, but a real country with its own economy.
Northern Ireland is a subsidised British colony in a foreign country, just like Gibraltar or Ceuta and Melilla.

That's why the Irish invented whiskey Who needs the sun after a couple of whiskeys on the rocks.
Portugal and Greece are developed countries, but the poorest among the developed countries. Indeed, their standard of living are still higher than most of the developing countries.

Pedorreropop, thanks for the excellent post.
What I do not understand is why a good word for Spain is to be Franco. Did everything I have said is not objectified? I do not speak on subjective but objective things. If the Franco appropriated the Spanish flag and symbols is ignored because other
Spain is a great country and I am not ashamed to say it. The vast majority of Spanish are honest and hardworking, very much. Inmensamenste solidarity is a country like no other. All countries have problems and more severe than those of Spain. Today Europe is in recession and therefore not France or Germany have convetido third world. That's what I do understand
They just said that 20% of the Portuguese are already 65+ years old and that share will climb to 40% by 2050, unless a miracle happens
At the same time the well educated emigrate and child births are at a historic low.
I wonder if any country with such demographics can remain a first-world country
