The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize was given to ICAN, who insisted on banning nuclear weapons. But is the weapons disappearing in the world now? There have been many Nobel Peace Prize awards, but have you ever had a true peace? No. So why do we have to go to war and build weapons? What do we get from war?

It’s poverty, death, suffering, the sacrifice of youth, separation from family. Everyone knows the horrors of war and it's happening now. Political leaders sacrifice young people for interests of their country and one religion slaughters other religions for the sake of its doctrines. Is it right? The purpose of the United Nations is to achieve peace. But has peace been achieved now? the U.N. Security Council has five countries. But when war broke out, did they try to stop war? Rather, they tried harder to sell their country’s weapons.

So how can peace come to the world? First, there should be a new international law that can achieve peace, not the current international law. Secondly, there should be no conflict in religion, which is 80 percent of the cause of the war. Third, citizens should become one and shout for peace to change the minds of their leaders. By the way, do you know that there's a place doing all this?

It's HWPL, a peace group. Over 700,000 citizens from 176 countries, including the PAP Pan-African Parliament, the Baltic Black Sea Council, former and incumbent presidents, Supreme Court Chief Justice, National Assembly Speaker and numerous religious leaders, are flocking to this group for peace.

HWPL has DPCW which is a new internation law to achieve true peace, World Alliance of Religions’Peace Office for harmony between religions, and IPYG and IWPG which can gather civil society into one!

These are not fanciful stories. It’s actually happening. If you see HWPL's peace tour, you can feel it. Starting with the first peace tour in 2012, HWPL has made 31 peace tours so far. In particular, the 31st Peace Tour in April this year brought many achievements! See the scene of peace through Youtube : http://bit.ly/0403iwpg_en, http://bit.ly/0402hwpl_en

Everyone! don't let the war cost young people any more. Please Join us to be no more war. If you join HWPL's walking, you can also become a messenger of peace remembered in future generations forever!

Firstly the Nobel Peace Prize has become a joke, secondly war has been largely stopped by mutually assurred destruction in terms of nuclear powers and wars are increasingly religious and based on fundamentalism or politically based civil wars.

Good look with persuading Islamic fundamentalists not to wage war or to kill the infidel non believers.

Major wars are unlikely because of nuclear weapons, and any inbalance in terms of nuclear weapons would make war more likely and not less.

There's an old adage about sheep. Just because many people are flocking to a cause, belief, or way of life, does not mean it is correct, or the smart thing to do.

I'm sure many readers can think of some event locally where everyone jumped on the bandwagon, did it because everyone else said it was great, and lived to rue/regret that moment.

And religion certainly has had many moments of trying to indoctrinate, brainwash, convert, or gain followers. Religion really hasn't gotten this peace thing in the bag yet/resolved. Yeh.

More akin to what BNW is saying. The superpowers and non-supers, may have a tete a tete/talk/agreement amongst themselves to ramp the war/peace factor up to acheive their own goals, then back it off/back down and glide along till someone needs to make more money off war profiteering, or votes.

The main cause of war is not religion, but competition for resources. Some religions may use that as an excuse, but not the reality. War is simply a foreign policy tool, and since the second world war that tool of international statecraft is getting too expense (in cost of lives and business) to use.

International law as you point out is pretty useless. Before the UN there was the League of Nations - that was after WW1, we can surmise how useless that was in preventing WW2. And indeed the Nobel Peace Prize has long since been misused for political purposes, not for any reason of peace.

However, there is some good news - the last 50 years or so, in spite of the bad news you hear every day on the useless main stream media, is the most peaceful on recorded history of Earth. Less war, not only that but less famine, less crime, less suffering. So it's not all bad. Yes - right now we are living in the most peaceful era ever.

Most of the on-going wars are in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and the only recent major conflict in Europe was in the Balkans and was down to ethnicity and religion.

Indeed, war is a foreign policy tool, even the major domestic/civil wars, while looking like a local power grab, are nearly always backed by foreign influences.

It is a peaceful era right now, but somehow after watching Homeland and other world-at-risk movies, it does feel like the calm before a storm.

With maybe a couple of exceptions, non-Muslims live just as peacefully in Muslim countries, as Muslims do where they are a minority -- problably more so. Non-Muslim minorities are allowed to live with honor and dignity while practicing their own faith. Saddam Hussein's top aide, Tariq Aziz, was a Christian.

Sadam Hussein was a dictator and not an Islamic Fundamentalist.

Dictators usually curb religion as it can challenge theor iwn power.

In terms of the persecution of Christians in Muslim countries it is both historic and widespread.

Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia allow Christians to enter the country as foreign workers for temporary work, but do not allow them to practice their faith openly.

Earlier this year a number of Christians were murdered in Nigeria, and mass graves were found in Libya last year, whilst Islamic Fundamentalist groups such as ISIS will murder any Chritian they find.

Link 1 -- Nearly all in non-Muslim countries. That's 400 a year. Americans with handguns kill a hundred times that many Christians in your "nation of peace"

Link 2 -- How about the Christian terror attacks that killed millions of Muslims in Iraq and Afghnistan, carried out by Bush I and II, Clinton, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove -- alll Christians, I believe.. Millions, with an M.

There is a lot of Anti-Christian bigotry in Islamic countries, indeed some don't even tolerate christanity full stop.

Christians in Egypt face unprecedented persecution, report says - The Guardian

Egypt's Coptic churches hit by deadly blasts on Palm Sunday - BBC News

Philippines church bombings: 20 killed and dozens wounded - CNN

Surabaya attacks: 11 killed in Indonesia church bombings - BBC News

As for the so called war on terror, the disgusting attacks on 9/11 started that.

The truth is religion is a powerful force and does lead to conflict and discrimination, and some fairly vile acts have been carried out by Islamic groups such as Isis in recent years.
