I always assumed South America was cheaper, on average to live, sleep, travel, etc. But lately I've seen a few indexes and articles online suggesting that Eastern Europe is cheaper.
I know these are broad regions and you can find expensive places in either. But on average, can someone shed some light on this?
At least in Brazil, the cost of living is very high and increasing.
It may be noted by a simple observation: the nominal GDP per capita is much higher than the GDP calculated according to the purchasing power parity. While the levels of most of countries in LA in the nominal GDP is more or less in the same level of Eastern Europe, the GDP/PPP is more comparable to Asia.
I don't get why anyone would assume that South America is cheaper. Eastern Europe is not significantly richer than SA. And these regions are about on the same tier of QOL and development based on every statistic I've seen.
